Homemade Italian Seasoning (no MSG!)

I love my homemade Italian seasoning, whether it’s over pasta, homemade breadsticks, sprinkled on potatoes, on pizza, over fish, or any other thing you can imagine!

Homemade Italian Seasoning

4 tablespoons dried basil
4 tablespoons dried oregano
4 tablespoons dried parsley
1 1/2 teaspoons onion powder
1 1/2 teaspoons garlic powder

(find organic dried herbs and spices here)

  1. Place all the dried herbs and spices in a jar, cover with a lid, and shake to combine.  Yum!

Anti-Diet Challenge 2014: The Rules

Join me in the Anti-Diet Challenge this year!  We start January 6, 2014!

  • Eat foods that sound good.  Be intuitive.  Want ice cream for breakfast?  Try it.  See how you feel.  For me, it makes me feel awesome and warm!  And after a while, I lost interest in ice cream, because I didn’t think it was “bad” anymore.  Now I just eat it when I want to, and I don’t worry about it.  And when I do eat it, it’s usually earlier in the day, not at night.  Go figure.
  • Don’t drink anything unless you are thirsty.  For reals.  And in general, drink less in the morning and more at night.  You want to move from less water to more throughout the day.  This one may feel counterintuitive at first, especially if you always have a water bottle and you drink water “because it’s good for you”.  Let it go!

Women’s Retreat in Murietta, CA

As you know, I was gone to beautiful southern California this past weekend, amidst the wine country of Murietta, CA, near Santa Rosa.  It’s a retreat that I attend every year with some of my closest friends in Arizona, California, and Utah.  I look forward to it each and every spring!

This year we stayed in the same house we rented last year, because it is gorgeous and has a beautiful space for us to sit and have our discussions and classes.  We also did yoga in this beautiful barn with the doors and windows open to let in a breeze each morning.

I taught a class with a friend of mine on being vulnerable and authentic, based on Brene Brown’s book The Gifts of Imperfection.  There are many life-changing books over the course of my life that I can refer to, and this is the most current in that series.  I highly recommend reading it with an open heart. Homemade Taco Seasoning

I love taco seasoning!  Especially when I get pounds and pounds of grass-fed ground beef that I use throughout the year.  And since I grew up in California and now live in Arizona, you’d better believe that I love me some Mexican food.

I use this taco seasoning not just on ground beef, but ground turkey as well.  It’s perfect for making tacos, burrito bowls, tostadas, and even flavored sour cream!  I use about two tablespoons of taco seasoning for 2 cups of sour cream and we use it all the time to flavor various Mexican dishes we make.   [Read more…]
